Japanese immigration fees will be raised.

Summary of Fee Revisions by the Immigration Services Agency (scheduled to take effect on April 1, 2025)

The Japan Immigration Services Agency has announced its policy to revise fees for residency status-related procedures starting in FY2025, taking into consideration rising prices and the actual costs required for the procedures.

The main changes are as follows;

Revisions and change in amount

Application for Permission for Change of status of residence 在留資格変更許可申請

  • Current: 4,000 yen
  • After revision: 6,000 yen
  • Online application: 5,500 yen

Application for Permission for Extension of period of stay 在留期間更新許可申請

  • Current: 4,000 yen
  • After revision: 6,000 yen
  • Online application: 5,500 yen

Application for Re-entry Permit 再入国許可申請

  • Current: 3,000 yen (single entry) /  6,000 yen (multiple entry)
  • After revision: 4,000 yen (single entry) /  7,000 yen (multiple entry)
  • Online application: 3,500 yen (single entry) /  6,500 yen (multiple entry)

*Many foreign nationals do not need to obtain a re-entry permit due to the use of the “Special re-entry permit”.

Application for Certificate of Authorized Employment 就労資格証明書交付申請

  • Current: 1,200 yen
  • After revision: 2,000 yen
  • Online application: 1,600 yen

Application for Permanent Residence permit 永住許可申請

  • Current: 8,000 yen
  • After revision: 10,000 yen
  • Online application: N/A *Unfortunately, online application for permanent residence is not allowed.

In addition, the cost of issuing TTP cards (特定登録者カード) will also change.

Effective date

Start of application of new fee: April 1, 2024

Application of current fee: Unchanged only for applications made by March 31, 2024.

The new fees will increase the overall fees, and a discount will be applied to online applications. The new fees will be officially enforced after the public comment hearings continue.
