(As of Oct. 2023) Nationals other than those listed above should not hesitate to contact us.
For case studies, see 実績紹介 ~外国人のオーストラリアビザ~
- Do I need an Australian visa?
- All nationalities require some form of visa, except New Zealand passport holders. For information on the type of visa required, please refer to the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship website or contact them for advice.
- Do you only deal with tourist visas?
- Tourists as well as business trips, short-term excursions, school trips and language training can also apply for the “Subclass 600” visa type. We also accept subclass 500 visas for study abroad purposes.
Temporary work visas and partner visas are not available at present.
Work and Holiday Visa “subclass 462” for Chinese nationals is not available, as the application must be made from within China.
- Do you handle online applications?
- We are an online application-compliant office for all cases. Customers who are unsure about applying online are encouraged to apply for our proxy application service.
- How many years can I get a tourist visa for?
- Case by case. Our clients are usually granted a tourist visa that is valid for one year for multiple journeys, with a maximum stay of three months at a time; from 2022, Vietnamese passport holders may be granted a visa valid for ‘three years’ if conditions are favourable. For more information, please contact.
- How long does it take to apply for a visa?
- The screening process takes approximately two weeks. We request that you contact our office at least one and a half months before your departure date. Early consultation is recommended.
Please note that applications can be submitted up to one year before the intended departure date.
- When should I start applying?
- When it is best to apply depends on the customer’s circumstances.
It is usually better to apply 6-3 months in advance, which will make it easier to schedule your trip and get cheaper airline tickets.
If your status is likely to allow you to obtain a visa valid for one year, there is no problem in applying six months or more in advance. However, if your status of residence in Japan is about to expire, we recommend that you apply for an extension of your period of stay first.
- Can I apply if my passport is not valid for 6 months?
- The Australian authorities recommend that you travel with a passport that is valid for at least six months on arrival in Australia. However, as it is a ‘recommendation’, not having six months remaining does not mean you cannot apply for a visa. Also, if you renew your passport before your visa expires, your visa will continue to be valid as long as you register a change to your passport.
- Can I apply if my visa status (Residence card) is not valid for six months?
- Unlike passport validity, there is no recommendation for a validity period of more than six months. However, the stability and establishment of your status of residence in Japan is a criterion for examination, so if the time for renewal has arrived, it is recommended that you renew your status and obtain a new residence card before applying for a new one. If the time for renewal has not yet arrived, the applicant has no choice but to apply as is, but it is advisable to submit a document explaining that the time for renewal has not yet arrived together with the application. Our Gyoseishoshi lawyer is a specialist in residency status and will write a letter to the Australian authorities stating the reasons why the period of stay is short. The period of stay can be renewed at the immigration office with jurisdiction over your residence approximately three months before the expiry date. Permanent residents can renew their residence card two months before the expiry date. Please contact us for more information on the various renewal procedures.
- Is it necessary to book airline tickets?
- No. It is not mandatory to book airline tickets.
However, depending on the applicant’s status, it may be questioned whether they are really going to Australia for travel purposes? may be questioned, at which point the presence of a flight ticket will be considered more favourably in the application process.
- Do I need to register for biometrics?
- No. As there is no place in Japan for biometric registration, it is not normally required at screening and is not required in visa applications.
However, depending on nationality, or the type of visa, it may be required.
- Are there any precautions depending on nationality?
- Special certificates are required depending on nationality and residence history.
For example, several nationalities require proof of vaccination against polio when applying for a visa. Those from Middle Eastern and African countries should be aware of this.
- How much proof of bank deposit do I need?
- For tourist visas, there is no explicit amount set under Australian immigration legislation.
On the other hand, our office responds that it is preferable to have more than JPY 1 million. There is no rule about how much more, but look at your own travel schedule and calculate how much you will spend. For example, if it costs 30,000 yen per day, for a two-week itinerary, 30,000 yen x 14 days = 420,000 yen. Assuming an additional 150,000 yen for airfare, this is approximately 600,000 yen. It is unlikely that the applicant will spend all of his savings on this trip (since he lives in a foreign country, Japan), so he will need to save enough to live on when he returns to Japan, in other words, he will need about the same amount as the cost of the trip as current funds. For this reason, our office considers that those who have less than one million yen in savings may have problems with their application.
- I have a low annual income, will I be granted a visa?
- The Australian authorities will, more than you can imagine, use precise calculations to work out the total cost of your living in the country. If your annual income does not meet that standard, you will need to provide a reasonable explanation for covering your own travel costs, and if you cannot do so, your travel for the purpose of travel itself will be questioned, resulting in the non-issuance of a visa. Nevertheless, our office also deals with people with low incomes and pensioners, so please contact us for more information.
- Can I just provide a bank-issued certificate of deposit? I do not want to provide a copy of my bank pass book.
- The Australian authorities have attached little weight to a bank statement with closing balance only without any transaction records as evidence of the applicant’s financial means, as on its own, it does not sufficiently demonstrate any saving pattern and cannot be considered as significant evidence of their overall financial situation.
- My visa is not affixed to my passport.
- If your visa is granted, there will still be no sticker or stamp in your passport.
Nothing will remain in your passport, but you can rest assured that your VISA information is already registered with the Australian authorities.
If you are concerned, you should print a copy of your visa approval notification.
Children under 18 years of age applying for an Australian visa
- The child is a “Permanent resident”, but does he/she need an Australian visa?
- Even permanent residents need an Australian visa if their children are the nationality which need to apply visa, such as Chinese nationals (holders of Chinese passports).
- My child was born in Japan, what proof of birth will I need?
- If you were born in Japan, please obtain a 「出生届記載事項証明書」(Birth Registration Certificate) from the municipal office where you registered your birth. Please note that a 「出生届受理証明書」(Certificate of Acceptance of Birth Certificate) will not be accepted. If, for some reason, you are unable to obtain a ‘Certificate of Matters Described in the Birth Certificate’, please contact us.
- My child was born in Japan and does not have an identity card from his/her home country, what should I do?
- The office also handles many cases where no ID has been obtained. Even if you do not have one, you can still apply. For more information, please contact us.
- If my child is going to Australia for a school event, what visa should I get?
- For school events such as school trips, language training and homestays, you will be granted a “Subclass 600 – Tourist stream” visa. This type of visa is also available for students who are going to experience or visit an Australian school.
- My school has asked me to submit my visa application records. What should I do?
- If you have already submitted your visa application and it is under review, you may be able to prove that your visa application is in process by showing the “Acknowledgement of application received” issued by the Australian Embassy.
